When Spencer arrived, he was underweight following the ordeal of trying to survive in the streets half-blind and possibly due to what came before. At the shelter, they told us that they have trouble getting the dogs to gain weight because it’s a stressful atmosphere.
Since we have had him, Spencer has gained 7-8 kilos. I have lost at least 6. It’s like we’ve exchanged the extra weight. His, of course, comes from improved mental health and a good diet (plus the oversize portions we gave him in the beginning to encourage weight gain). My reduction is probably a combined effect of all the walking I do with him and the fact that I have less time and boredom for snacking.
